Helen grew up in South Australia where she completed her school studies before travelling for three months and upon returning home began pursuing a career in banking.
She spent several years working for Westpac in various branch positions yet in search of a greater challenge took on a secondment with subsidiary company, Westpac Financial Consultants. As Branch Liaison and Client Conservation Manager she was afforded the opportunity to work with a variety of Financial Planners and their clients. It was extremely diversified and a demanding role, and brought with it both challenge and great reward. Most importantly however, it provided her with an insight into the role of an Adviser and how they assisted people to achieve their lifestyle goals.
She continued to work with WestpacтАЩs Financial Planning team for several years with a focus on fostering strong relationships between its advisers, staff and clients. She also became an insurance trainer before deciding to do something completely left field тАУ she moved to Darwin.
Having holidayed in the Northern Territory several times, she always thought it was a fabulous place so she took the plunge and relocated. That was some 23 years ago тАУ so she likes to think she can now call herself a local.
Not long after arriving she secured a position with a small Financial Planning firm where she worked in administration and assisted with insurance client reviews. She then went on to work for another firm and became a licensed Financial Adviser, specialising in wealth protection.
Helen joined Praescius in January 2011 initially as their Specialist Risk Adviser, but have since put the rest of her knowledge and training to work and now provide holistic financial advice. Whilst she enjoys delivering advice around how clients can best protect themselves in times of challenge тАУ be it individuals, family or business owners тАУ being able to assist her clients with all of their needs at each stage of life, is both fulfilling and rewarding.
She is a member of the Association of Financial Advisers, have a Diploma in Financial Planning and she is currently completing her Advanced Diploma.
She loves to spend her тАШdown timeтАЩ with family and friends and have a passion for cooking and love to travel тАУ with many places still on her bucket list!

Most Darwin residents can expect to pay $3,000 to $5,000 for a comprehensive financial plan, which is similar to the national range. Ongoing advice usually costs $3,000 to $4,000 per year, depending on how much support you need. Some advisers charge hourly rates of around $300, while a few use asset-based fees of 0.5% to 1.0% for investment management.
DarwinтАЩs market is small, but local prices track closely with national norms because planners face the same education and compliance requirements. Many firms also offer a free first meeting so you can understand the fees before committing.
A Darwin financial planner can help you build a clear structure around your money, especially with the higher cost of utilities, goods, and transport in the Territory. An experienced adviser can review your cash flow, debt, superannuation, and insurance to help your income stretch further. They may also highlight benefits unique to the region, such as remote-area allowances or the Zone Tax Offset, which many residents do not claim without guidance.
Darwin offers attractive rental yields and more affordable entry prices than other capitals, which can make property a useful part of a long-term wealth management plan. A reputable investment advisor in Darwin can help you understand the risks of a smaller and more variable market, assess borrowing capacity, and balance property ownership with diversified investments. This helps residents make decisions that suit their goals rather than relying solely on market conditions.
Financial planners in Darwin operate across the city, with many based in the CBD, Waterfront precinct, Parap, Nightcliff, Stuart Park, and Winnellie. You will also find reputable advisers in Casuarina, Palmerston, and the northern suburbs.
Most firms offer online meetings, which makes it easy for residents in surrounding communities or FIFO roles to access personal advice wherever they are in the Territory.
